Steps to a busy yet productive 2018

Some goals or dreams come to pass so quick, your head spins. Others take years, if you never give up. It is an amazing feeling when a dream finally comes true. I recall first dreaming about getting a fashion education when I was 14. It did not take too long for me to “wake up” and face the facts. I mean, how do I tell my parents I would love to get a degree in fashion. LOOL! Yeah right. All these years I kept the dream close to my heart. I will go someday.

I am super excited that finally, 10 years and a law degree later, I finally get to work towards that Bachelor of Arts in Fashion Design. Yayy! I am officially a LISOFianLISOF

Now to the actual point of this post. Hallelyah! January is finally starting to pick up. Thank goodness. But it is very easy to get drawn into all the craziness of the year and before you know it, you are drowning, asking where the all time is going. Here are some quick steps to help you stay productive and work smarter (these tips also apply for studying):

  • Noise: Whether you acknowledge it or not, this is a major problem when it comes to your productivity. I am very particular about my space and how I work or study. Different things work for different people. For example, when I write, I typically like to have background noise, such as the TV or songs playing softly from my phone or computer. If however, there are people talking or someone on the phone or traffic sounds and noises, that can really hamper your productivity. On the other hand, if I were to be studying, it is the opposite, I would love perfect silence or soft classical music/instrumentals. Sometimes, listening to upbeat music that you do not know the lyrics also helps. My attention span is short, so I prefer short periods of focused work or study. Find whatever works for you in 2018, be it background noise or the lack thereof.

  • Redesign your work or study space: Having a cluttered space can really hamper your productivity. A cost-free solution can be to simply rearrange your work or study space. If you are up for some DIY, check out this post from Brit & Co.  I look forward to trying some of them out in the next couple of weeks. If you are interested, watch out for my posts on Instagram.
  • Distractions: This is a bit similar to the one I mentioned earlier. It can be hard to keep your focus. I have a very short attention span. As a result, I prefer to work or study in time blocks, study/work for 45 minutes, take a 15 minutes break and then get back into it for another 45 minutes. I do this for 3 hours and then take an hour break and start all over again. Constantly being able to draw inspiration from your environment also helps. Put away your gadgets. Make your space more attractive and work/study away!

So, will you be trying any of the DIY ideas?
